Senator Draheim Selects New Prague Art for State Display
Last fall, the Minnesota Senate implemented a new art program for K-12 students across Minnesota called “My District, My Minnesota.” The Minnesota Senate invited students to submit a drawing or photograph of life in their district. A submission of life in their district by Senate district was chosen to hang in the Minnesota Senate building for the following calendar year.
“I received so many well-drawn and photographed submissions that it was a tough decision to make,” said Sen. Rich Draheim (R – Madison Lake). “Each submission represented daily life in our community, and we are incredibly blessed with talented students,” Draheim said.
A black framed drawing of a John Deere Green tractor with bales of hay, a sheep and a red barn in the background is proudly displayed for Senate District 20, submitted by Hayden Malecha, son of Doug and Josie Malecha and a sixth grade student at New Prague Middle School. “Farming is an integral part of our lives in rural Minnesota, and Hayden’s submission really captured what life is like for many in our community,” Draheim said.
My district, my Minnesota, will be an annual program: “I encourage everyone to submit a drawing or photograph next year. I’m already looking forward to seeing all the entries,” concluded Draheim.
