Rohan Island in Prague is getting a makeover
Councilor Tomáš Hřebík told the iDnes.cz news site that the construction of a school is a precondition of the town hall for any further development work on the island. Therefore, at the beginning of this year, Prague 8 announced an architectural tender for a new primary school which received 15 applications from various architectural studios.
The deputy mayor of the district, Tomáš Tatranský, told iDnes.cz that it is not common for the city to build completely new schools and therefore the tender was able to select from several high-quality proposals. quality.
The winning design comes from architecture studio AXXI and counts on a building that should offer stunning views of the surroundings from its classroom windows. It is intended that the school will also serve as an important navigational point in the region, serving as a meeting place for the children, their parents and the community at large. The school will be closed during school hours, but open at certain times to the public, allowing non-students to use the building’s plaza and playground.
Photovoltaic panels will be used to both heat and cool the building and LED lights will be used to illuminate the structure, the studio says in its plan.
The building will also have a green roof that will capture rainwater and use it to water the surrounding greenery as well as flush the school toilets.
Construction of the school is expected to start soon and is expected to cost approximately CZK 670 million.
